This means that our syllabus is recognised by the WFKKO, and has been approved.

 What does this mean for you?

For individuals that train at DMA, we highly recommend you join the association as an individual. It means that your current grades, as graded by Master Lawson, can be verified and approved, so that your grades are world wide recognised. Each level attained will be stamped by the WFKKO annually.

As a member you can enter their competitions and it comes with additional personal insurance to cover any injury obtained during sparing in class or competitions.

Cost: £15- first year, £10 each year after.

More information will be provided.  Master Cris Janson-Piers and International Champion K1 fighter Kerry-Louise will visit the children to announce the membership of the club to the WFKKO.  They will also join the training session for all adults on Friday 27th April 7.30pm at Fitness First.  We are honoured to have them visit us.

If you would like to have your membership book presented to you on the 27th April, then please contact us ASAP, so that you can complete the form and the grading book will be issued on the 27th.

Trustworthiness

This month we are looking at – Trustworthiness.  Each month you can expect the same format:

- We deliver a Power Chat at eash lesson, to engage the children in the topic

- You will receive a Powerful Words ‘Parents Perch’ and ‘Dear Dr Robyn’ by email - These are a reference for parents so that you are kept up-to date with the learning for the month

- Around the 15th of each month you will receive two challenge sheets by email.  Please select one of the sheets, as they are age appropriate.  You only need to print and return one sheet = Although some kids do like to do both.

- Each child hands in their monthly challenge sheet, which counts towards their grading

- If you have any questions about the program or would like to ask Dr Robyn a direct question relating to child development then feel free to email her!  She is a part of our team at DMA and welcomes any questions.  http://www.drrobynsilverman.com/about-dr-robyn-silverman/

We want to say to everyone at the club  a massive thank you.  The kids were amazingly well behaved and its was fantastic to have so many parents there to see their children do so well.  It was a big day for them, to do a class in front of the Mayor and the President of the WFKKO !  Well done, you all did fantastic.  This was an event for our members, to encourage the kids to keep on with their dedication and also to give them a well done and a pat on the back.  It respects the parents, teachers and others who do all the hard work behind the scenes.

We have had so much positive feedback about changes in attitude, progress at school – that make it all worthwhile.  It’s the reason we do what we do.  So thank you for the encouragement.  We are very pleased to be a Powerful Words member and character development school – we couldn’t imagine running the club without it, as we see it making a long term difference to the way students see themselves and who they want to become in the future.

The character education program we deliver is the world’s industry leading program, and we have found the material quality to be fantastic.  Each month children get to produce a powerful project which focuses on a new ‘Word of the Month’.  This month it is Legacy and we look forward to sharing what we have been doing as a club with special visitors – The Mayor and Mayoress of Derby.  We also welcome Cris-Janson Piers president of the WFKKO and Kerry-Louise Norbury world champion K1 full contact fighter, an inspiration to us all.

All club members from our Spondon and Chaddesden classes are invited, and parents can stay as well.  Expect a busy session!  Space is limited so many thanks in advance for your help and support.

We’re looking forward to this Friday as a club, to celebrate what it means to be a character education school! We will have the children’s homework on display and you can watch a 20 minute class. After our special guests say a few words, you can stay for tea and coffee etc.  We have a number of the children’s teachers coming along which is so great, and we know the kids will be really proud to show their skills to their teachers.  How great for their confidence and relationship with their teacher.

We will have some time for the children to give a certificate to the teachers that come, to say thank you, as part of ‘Legacy’ month.  We know they are special people, especialy to have made time to come and see their kids.

Cris Janson-Piers will be there to talk about the WFKKO, what it means to be a part of the organisation and the opportunity for competitions when children are ready, as an option.  If you would like to purchase a license book this Friday, then please email me your details in adavance- It means that your children’s grades will recognised nationally/internationally by both WFKKO and WAKO (the worlds largest kickboxing organisation).

We will also have a photographer to take some group shots, which we hope will go in the Derby Evening Telegraph.

At Derby Martial Arts, we offer free sessions when you mention Asda Sporting chance, throughout Easter 2012 holidays.  So don’t worry if you forgot to pick up your voucher in store!  We will honour your free session for your own kids and their friends too.  ) Now you can’t say fairer than that!

Whatever you do these holidays enjoy special times with your kids, and take our top parenting tip – leave the housework until they go back to school, its like shoveling the snow while its still snowing ;o)

Hey, we got a little jump start with the weather this week – March – Sun? Whats going on!?

Well it means we are all livened up ready to resume the summer fitness classes. They are going to be tougher, harder hitting and make a big impact in your overall fitness – fighting fit.  Dig deep, you will need it!

These classes are open to members who want to super-charge their fitness levels for their strength, enduance and general stamina.  And please DO invite friends, work colleagues, partners.  If you are at work/college, maybe give us a shout and we will pass on a poster for the office noticeboard.

When: Wednesday 7pm (meet fitness first car park)

Where: Training will take place throughout Darley Park and Chester Green in Derby. 

Cost: Pay as you go £5- per session

Who – Members and non members.

Parents! If your kids are getting fit in class – come on! This is pay as you go, and every fitness level is accomodated.  You will be pushed, but you can modify this for those making the jump back in to fitness.

So come on guys! Lets bring it on D

We like these events so much, because it is a time to hang out with the parents and get to know the kids better.  We hope to share many years of great experiences together as we see the kids grow, make friends and get to be themselves within the safety of the club.

Of course we also got to raise some money! £107 pounds in total, all banked and off to Sports Relief.  Watching the show on Friday it felt even more important to have raised that money, and think about people ‘we will never meet’ as John Bishop put it.  It is tough viewing to watch the suffering of people who haven’t got basic health care such as vaccinations for common child hood illnesses and access to clean water.  Something to think about.

DMA Self Defence workshop for **ANY ADULT / ANY FITNESS LEVEL /ANY AGE** to learn self defence techniques to stay safe and protect yourself.

N.B. This is not a martial arts class, it is taken in regular clothes and will cover self defence techniques that you can use easily to protect yourself and avoid dangerous situations.

Derby Martial Arts

Last year the DMA kids had the chance to spend some time away from their parents and emerse themselves in all things martial arts.  It was a chance to have fun times, build friendships and develp independence on, for some a first trip away without mum and dad.

The camp ran in August 2011 at Beaumanor Hall.  The hall is well used by schools and scout groups, and is run by Leicestershire council, the ideal choice for a kids group in a safe child friendly location.

It was a fantastic weekend with a 40 strong water fight!  We are told the children were pretty tired after the weekend.  The perfect antidote to  the school holidays for kids that need to let off steam.

DMA 2012 Summer Camp

We are pleased to say, we have booked Beaumanor Hall again for 2012!  Here are the dates and info, if you are interested then please contact Ryan Lawson 07769 254011.

Date: Friday 11th – Sunday 13th August 2012

Children will be dropped off by the parents for registration at 4pm and collected on Sunday at 1pm.  Parents are invited at 12.30 for an end of weekend presentation and finals of the sparring competition!

Cost: £120- full weekend, £60 for Saturday only (9am-7pm)

Payment: £20 deposit, full payment date tbc.
